F1 movie director Joseph Kosinski has teased the idea of not only a sequel to the Hollywood blockbuster, but a crossover with the 1990's NASCAR classic Days of Thunder. This idea would see both acting heavyweights Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise come together again 30 years after they played opposite each other in horror flick Interview with the Vampire.

Speaking to GQ in a recent interview, Kosinksi was asked about how he would bring the two actors on-screen together once again. The Top Gun: Maverick director didn't disappoint with his answer.

"Well, right now, it'd be Cole Trickle, who was [Cruise's] Days of Thunder character, we find out that he and Sonny Hayes have a past," he explained. "They were rivals at some point, maybe crossed paths… I heard about this epic go-kart battle on Interview with a Vampire that Brad and Tom had, and who wouldn't pay to see those two go head-to-head on the track?"

The reference to their go-kart battles stems from an interview with Cruise at CinemaCon from earlier this year.

“It’s great to see Brad driving,” Cruise admitted. “He’s very good. He’s a very good driver. Believe me, I’ve raced against him. When we were doing Interview with the Vampire we’d go and race go-karts. We’d literally finish and go drive go-karts all night.”

The idea of a crossover is gaining momentum after Cruise made an appearance at the London premiere for the F1 movie only a few days ago. He joined his former co-star on the red carpet to pose for the cameras.

But it was at the Mexican premiere that saw Pitt comment on working with Cruise again.

"I'm not going to hang my ass off airplanes and s—t like that," Pitt told E! News during F1's Mexico premiere. "So when he does something again that's on the ground..."

This comes amid reports of a Days of  Thunder sequel, with Cruise apparently interested in reprising his role after seeing substantial success in his sequel to Top Gun.

F1 producer Jerry Bruckheimer has also commented on a sequel, admitting the possibility of such a thing solely relies on the success of the film.

"That's up to you," Bruckheimer told Australia's Today Show when asked about a continuation of the story. "If you talk us up, a lot of people come see it, we'll figure out how to make another one."

F1 was released in theatres globally on June 25, with the USA seeing its release two days after.
