The F1 movie has landed nominations in four categories for the 2026 Oscars.
The blockbuster, directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, has been nominated for Best Picture, Best Film Editing, Best Sound and Best Visual Effects.
In the Best Picture category, F1 is up against Bugonia, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, Sinners and Train Dreams.
F1 is among Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another, Sentimental Value and Sinners in the Best Film Editing category, and Frankenstein, One Battle After Another, Sinners, Sirat and Train Dreams in the Best Sound category.
In the Best Visual Effects category, Avatar: Fire and Ash, Jurassic World Rebirth, The Lost Bus and Sinners are nominated alongside F1.
The F1 movie follows nomadic driver Sonny Hayes, played by Brad Pitt, as he returns to Formula 1 with the struggling APX GP team alongside rookie driver Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris.
The film was shot during actual race weekends and features the drivers from the 2023 and 2024 seasons, including seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton, who also served as an executive producer.
Since its release in June 2025, the Pitt-led film has exceeded $630million at the global box office. Given the success, it is no surprise that talks about a sequel have already begun.
"We're in that stage of just kind of dreaming up what that next chapter for Sonny Hayes would be and for APXGP," Kosinski explained to Variety in November 2025.
"But, you know, based on the reaction from around the world to this movie, it's something that people wanna see and I'd be happy to go back and do it because we had so much fun making this one."
The 2026 Oscars, which will be hosted by Conan O'Brien, will air on Sunday 15 March at 4pm PT on ABC and Hulu.
