Premiership win is help to Ecclestone

The Office of Fair Trading has lost it's challenge on the British football Premiership clubs selling rights to Sky and BBC. The OFT had said they were acting as a cartel, and as such it was illegal. The courts in the UK have said otherwise, Justice Ferris said that it did involve "restrictions on the supply of services", but it was in the public's interest for it to be this way.

He went on to say that "In these circumstances, we conclude that the restrictions are not unreasonable, we shall therefore declare that they are not against the public interest". This is good news for the FIA, who have been accused of acting as a cartel by the EU over F1 television rights. The teams and the FIA argue they are in a similar situation.

Peugeot to pay for ex-Renault engines?

Peugeot is thought to be quitting from F1 to concentrate on rallying. To get out of it's deal with Prost a pay-off is thought to be required, and a deal for the ex-Renault Supertec engines would involve paying Prost £10m... Prost himself has said he would not pay that sort of money for an engine "It would be too much of a setback to our chassis research and development programme."

Minardi won't use Hart V10

Minardi have said that they will not be using the ex-Arrows V10 engine next season, designed by Brian Hart. The team is to lose it's Ford V10 units next season, when Ford stops supplying customer units to teams.

Benetton linked to Brunner

Benetton is believed to have made an offer to Gustav Brunner - currently at Minardi - to join Benetton as their designer. This is linked to news that Alex Wurz is wanting assurances of major aerodynamic improvements in the car for next season before he re-signs for the team.

BAR to keep Zonta

Ricardo Zonta is expected to stay at British American Racing for a second season. The team has said it wants him, Zonta likewise wishes to stay. Both are waiting the go-ahead from Mercedes, who have first option on the Brazilian.

Alesi offered £5m deal

Jean Alesi has reportedly been offered £5m to stay with the Sauber team for the next two seasons. Jean has recently been linked with a move to Prost or Jordan. Alesi has said he is in no hurry to make a decision, as this will probably be his last contract "That is not because I want to retire after one more year, but because I don't like changing teams so often. I must give myself the time to make the best decision. I think I could race for another four years."
