Ralf Schumacher is being offered a new deal with Williams to extend his contract to 2003.

Badoer increases chances of Minardi drive Luca Badoer's sparkling performance in the European Grand Prix last weekend has helped to increase the chance of him staying with the Faenza based team next season, and at the same time silenced those who claimed he was to be replaced for the last two races of the season.

Giancarlo Minardi said "Luca is distraught and I can understand why. He really deserved that result for a lot of reasons. It was a stupid breakage on our part, but we still have two races to run and he will do well. It could be that he comes back next year". The drive next year depends on secure sponsorship for Minardi, and Ferrari's continued willingness to loan him to the team.

Dennis denied that Hakkinen cried Bizarrely, Ron Dennis has gone on the defensive about Mika Hakkinen's emotional outburt after the Italian Grand Prix. "Mika was not crying, he was swearing. He was extremely frustrated at making a silly mistake".

FIA to investigate roll bar failure The FIA is set to investigate the chassis of the Sauber of Pedro Diniz to find out if it simply failed and wasn't within spec, or was subject to a very large load beyond the scope of the regulations.

Panis targets CART Olivier Panis is prepared to quit F1 for a decent drive in CART. He has admitted there is a chance of a drive with Arrows, but said "It would be like starting from zero. I would like to stay in F1, but must think of other options and [I] have two significant contacts in the United States".

Foulston denies race move Nicola Foulston, boss of Brands Hatch Leisure, has denied press reports that she plans to move the British Grand Prix out of the UK. She has also said that she expects to here from the local council about planning approval in the new year. She has also said that if she does not get approval, it will go to litigation. She has also confirmed her interest in a F1 project outside of the UK, but gave no details.

Diniz back home Pedro Diniz has been released from hospital, and is expected to resume testing with Sauber next week. He said "apart from bruising to my shoulder and knee, I have no injuries"

Italian press slams Todt Unsurprisingly, following the disastrous showing by the Ferrari team at the European Grand Prix, the Italian press have called for heads to roll. Tuttosport said on it's front page headline that "Todt must go", and went on to say that "It may not be possible to take action before the season ends, but the day after the Japanese Grand Prix at the latest, Todt has to go. It's the only option to save Ferrari in 2000. Todt is responsible for what happened at the Nurburgring and the breach which has developed in the team since Schumacher's accident. Ross Brawn is an excellent technical supervisor and a first-rate strategist, but he can't do it all on his own. And when times are hard, he needs to refer to someone who has courage and authority. These two characteristics have never been part of the genetic baggage of the small Frenchman, who has always been careful to surround himself with yes-men."

GdS was even more unkind, with the story lead by "Oh dear, now where's that tyre gone? Has anyone seen a tyre?" it went on to describe the scene as being like "a pensioner whose Fiat 500 is propped up in the village garage with an old jack under one wheel. It's a cruel parody of those legendary pits. We wanted to cry during that never-ending pit- stop: 28 seconds, an eternity,"

Corriere dello Sport said that "Losing a wheel during a race is reprehensible, but losing it in the pits is tragi-comical" Ferrari have refused to consider sackings, with Montezemelo's spokesman, Antonio Ghini, saying "Given Ferrari's objectives, with two races left in the season, this isn't the time to be taking disciplinary proceedings."
