Ferrari boosted by new Allison deal
Ferrari has secured a boost to its long-term competitiveness in Formula 1 after agreeing a new contract extension with highly rated technical director James Allison.
The Briton, who is given much of the credit for helping turn around Ferrari's fortunes this year, originally joined the Maranello outfit in July 2013, with his deal running out at the end of 2015.
But despite speculation earlier this year that his place was in doubt, Ferrari sources confirmed on Thursday that he has just agreed a brand new deal that will keep him committed until 2018.
Second Ferrari spell
Allison is currently enjoying his second spell at Ferrari, having originally worked there during an ultra successful spell from 1999 to 2005.
He switched to Benetton, which became Renault and then Lotus, before returning to Ferrari in 2013.
His input has helped Ferrari win two races this year, as it eyes a full assault on the world championship in 2016.
Speaking in Belgium, Allison said that more success this year depended on pace-setters Mercedes hitting trouble.
"We're not a bad car, but we're not as good as these guys [Mercedes] and if they have a bad weekend while we're having a good weekend then we can upset the apple cart a bit," he said.
"If things pan out more normally then we tend to come in behind them. So let's keep our fingers crossed that they have a bad weekend and we do the opposite."
