The Ferrari team currently leads both the Drivers' and Constructors' Championships, but insists they are not taking anything for granted and that anything can happen in the season's remaining nine races.
Ross Brawn speaks out on the situation, stating "Winning the title after so long is our special challenge, that's for sure. Complacency can become a factor, but we will ensure that it doesn't. Obviously, we are happy with our position in both the drivers' and constructors' championships. But there is still a long, long way to go."
Indeed, it looked like 1999 would be their year, until Schumacher's accident at the British Grand Prix, which curtailed his season until the penultimate race in Malaysia. He would have been Ferrari's first World Champion since Jody Scheckter triumphed in 1979.
Michael Schumacher has won five of the eight races thus far, edging out a points lead of twenty-two over second-placed man, David Coulthard. The team's lead in the Constructors' Championship is four points less on eighteen.
