After an investigation by the FIA into the results of the red-flagged Brazilian Grand Prix, Jordan's Giancarlo Fisichella has now been officially declared the winner. The original decision that saw McLaren's Kimi Rakkonen claim victory was over-ruled after evidence proved that Fisichella had already started his 56th lap when the red flag came out.

The first result was on countback to lap 53 but with the new evidence, the classification stands as of the end of lap 54, when Fisichella was already in the lead. The confusion was attributed to a time-keeping error in which the times displayed on screens were incorrect at the time of the red flag.

The decision by the FIA and stewards of the race means Jordan can celebrate its fourth Grand Prix win for its 200th race and Fisichella his maiden Formula One victory.

"I am delighted for Giancarlo, the team, Ford and all our sponsors," said Eddie Jordan, Chief Executive of Jordan Grand Prix in a statement from the team. "Sunday's race was absolutely thrilling and I am very grateful to the FIA for examining the results in such detail and acknowledging that the victory is Giancarlo's."

"I am very happy that the FIA and everybody recognises that I won the Brazilian Grand Prix," said Fisichella. "I already thought this was the case, and the team believed it straight away and then in recent days when the evidence was examined, we knew it was true and hoped it would become official. It was very difficult for me with the confusion after the race, and I'm still disappointed that I didn't have my moment at the top of the podium, but I am pleased that it is clear now that I have won my first Grand Prix!"
