Lucky Strike B.A.R Honda have offered Ralph Firman, the newly crowned 2002 Formula Nippon champion, a Formula One test drive. The 27-year-old Englishman will join the team in Barcelona on Sunday 15th December where he will test this year's BAR004.
David Richards, B.A.R Team Principal, commented: "We congratulate Ralph on his success this year and are delighted to offer him a Formula One test. As Japan's top series, Formula Nippon is widely recognised as one of the best proving grounds for future talent. B.A.R will continue to monitor the Nippon series as part of our ongoing evaluation of young drivers."
Ralph Firman was tipped for success after winning the British Formula 3 Championship in 1996 and since then has enjoyed further victories in Japan, winning rounds of the Japanese GT Championship as well as Formula Nippon, Japan's premier single-seater series for cars powered by three-litre Mugen engines. These successes culminated in Firman capturing the 2002 Formula Nippon crown, racing for the team run by former Tyrrell and Lotus F1 driver Satoru Nakajima.
