Force India throws support behind Hulkenberg

The German's retirement from Austin after a collision with Daniel Ricciardo was his third DNF due to a crash in four races.

He also spun out at the first corner in Russia, while also having been handed a grid penalty for the Japanese Grand Prix after a clash with Felipe Massa in Singapore.

Force India deputy team principal Bob Fernley said the team was fully behind him, and was mindful that it didn't want the German to change his approach.

"We have to make sure it doesn't knock his confidence, because it is at a time when it is probably a bit sensitive at the moment," Fernley told Motorsport.com

"Some of the cause in all fairness was down to him, but some was not. And it is unfortunate when it starts rolling against you sometimes – you lose a bit of confidence and he doesn't need to do that. He is a great talent."

When asked what the team could do, Fernley said: "Just make sure you are there for them, and support them all the time. We have made decisions to have them as drivers and have confidence in what they can achieve."

Hulkenberg brush off

Hulkenberg insisted, however, that he was able to put all his recent dramas behind him and focus on delivering the best he can

"It is not in my mind," he said. "I am aware, but you have to leave these things behind you and look ahead. I am quite excited.

"It is not my home grand prix, it is Checo's home grand prix, but the Mexicans have been very welcoming and friendly to me as well. I look forward to being a part of it and want to have a good weekend.
