Another Race Finish For Mika Salo

Today s French Grand Prix was difficult for the Nokia Tyrrell Yamaha team. Mika Salo drove a strong and reliable race but suffered a lack of speed and traction. Mika stopped twice for fuel and tyres, on laps 25 and 48. Ukyo Katayama made a good start but was forced to retire after Taki Inoue pushed him off the track at the first corner.

Mika Salo: "It was difficult race because the balance of the car was not as good as yesterday and I was lacking traction and speed. I cannot wait to test at Silverstone to improve our pace before the team s home Grand Prix."

Ukyo Katayama: "I made a good start and overtook Inoue and Badoer. As I entered the first corner, I was hit at the back of the left hand side of my car and was pushed off the track. I spoke with Taki Inoue. He agreed it was his mistake and apologized."

Harvey Postlethwaite, Managing Director - Engineering: "We had a difficult day. We need to improve the performance of the car. We are working very hard to understand which areas we are losing out in. We made good progress to ensure that the car finishes the race and we are looking forward to a test at the end of next week at Silverstone."

Mr Kimura - Yamaha F1 Project Leader: "Unfortunately Ukyo s race was ended prematurely on the very first lap for which we are pretty sorry. Mika had a consistent race and our work on engine reliability has paid dividends. Now we must work on improving our speed before the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on July 16th."
