French Grand Prix Saturday 1 July 1995
7th and 10th Row for Salo and Katayama
Mika Salo and Ukyo Katayama will start tomorrow s French Grand Prix from the 7th and 10th rows. Mika Salo set the 14th quickest time (1 min 20.796 sec) on his second set of tyres and improved his grid position. Ukyo also improved his lap time (1 min 21.930 sec but unfortunately dropped two places on the grid and will start the race from the 19th slot.
Mika Salo: "We found some speed from yesterday but we can improve further. The car was better with my last set of tyres but the wind started to blow and I could not improve my lap time. I entered the second corner a bit too fast, went off the racing line and lost speed on the back straight. It s a shame because we had the potential to be 12th."
Ukyo Katayama: "I am very unhappy with my grid position. I could not use all my laps this morning during the practice and work as much as I wanted to on the set-up. I pushed really hard but made too many mistakes."
Harvey Postlethwaite, Managing Director - Engineering: "Mika did a very good job in final qualifying. Unfortunately he could not improve his lap time with his last set of tyres. Ukyo used four sets of tyres but could not find a good balance. He suffered a lack of running this morning in practice. We traditionally are stronger in the race and we are looking for a reliable Grand Prix."
Mr Kimura - Yamaha F1 Project Leader: "Mika did a good job under the circumstances today. The only problem encountered was an air pressure valve on Ukyo s car this morning. That problem aside the engines ran normally and we will be preparing ourselves for more high temperatures tomorrow."
