Jenson Alexander Lyons Button, better known as Jenson Button, drove in Formula 1 between 2000 and 2017.
On March 5, it was announced that the Honda would compete in the 2009 season as Brawn GP. Their drivers would be Button and Brazilian Rubens Barrichello.
During the race, Button was helped by an incident involving Jarno Trulli, Adrian Sutil and Fernando Alonso, plus another accident between Kimi Raikkonen and Mark Webber.
Button gained positions due to the retirement of Nick Heidfeld and also that of Williams drivers Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima. He thus ended up in the seventh place. He had even moved up to second, but eventually finished fifth. However, that would prove to be enough for Button to get enough points and secure the 2009 championship.
Button became world champion with six victories, four pole positions, two fastest laps, nine podiums, 95 points and only one race with no points out of 17 that he started. With 169 races, Button had made the second highest number of career starts before becoming world champion.
