Nico Hulkenberg was born on 19th August in 1987. He began karting in 1997 and won the German title in 2003. In 2005 he was crowned the Formula BMW ADAC champion after a season-long tussle with Sebastien Buemi.

Hulkenberg established his name in the international stage in the 2006-07 season of A1 GP, leading his country to the title.

The Nurburgring (Germany) round was an exceptional indicator of his sheer speed. By winning both races, claiming pole positions and scoring fastest laps, he secured all possible points available over the weekend.

Hulkenberg finally made his F1 debut in 2010 with Williams, but he didn't get off to a good start. He scored just two points in the first 11 races compared to 29 for his experienced teammate Rubens Barrichello.

Things began to improve as the season wore on and he scored a sixth place finish in Hungary - the midway point of the season.

But the highlight of the year was a sensational pole position in damp conditions in Brazil. However, with a dry track on Sunday, Hulkenberg could finish no higher than eighth.

With Williams signing pay driver Pastor Maldonado, Hulkenberg had to spend the 2011 on the sidelines as a test driver for Force India.

Having impressed as a third driver, Hulkenberg was promoted to the race seat for 2012. He replaced Adrian Sutil at Force India.

Hulkenberg scored 63 points against 49 for teammate Paul di Resta, with a fourth place finish in Belgium being the highlight.

Hulkenberg shined again in wet conditions in Brazil, leading the race for 30 laps before being passed by McLaren's Lewis Hamilton. He tried to overtake the British driver again, but ended up clinging into him. After pitting for a new nose and serving his penalty, he finished fifth.

Impressed by Sauber's podiums in 2012, Hulkenberg switched to the Swiss team for the following season.

The Sauber C32 was nowhere quick as its predecessor, but he managed to completely outshine his teammate Esteban Gutierrez. He also finished ahead of both Force India drivers - di Resta and Sutil - in the standings.

Hulkenberg returned to Force India after just one season at Sauber. He partnered with Sergio Perez.

His result to Force India was successful from the very beginning. In the first seven races, he finished fifth at four occasions. At this stage, he was running sixth in the drivers standings.
