George Russell has arrived at Silverstone for his home race weekend

George Russell has arrived at the Silverstone Circuit in his £2.5 million Mercedes AMG ONE for the media day ahead of the British Grand Prix.

The Mercedes Formula 1 driver acquired the rare hypercar earlier this year.

“MY DREAM CAR!!!” Russell posted at the time of adding the AMG ONE to his garage, which also features a 1970 Mercedes 280 SL, an AMG G63 and C63, a GT S Coupe, an SL63, and an AMG C63 S.

“So honoured to own this car and it’s been a dream of mine ever since I joined Mercedes F1 back in 2017," he continued.

“Crazy that the engine is a modified version from our 2015 F1 car – the first ever Mercedes F1 car I drove. What a beast!!!”

The Mercedes AMG ONE was unveiled in 2017 as a concept car before the first of the 275 production units was delivered in 2023. The £2.5 million performance behemoth boasts 1,049 horsepower from a 1.6-litre hybrid E-turbo V6, propelling the car from 0-100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds.

Russell is heading into his home race weekend, along with fellow British drivers Lando Norris, Lewis Hamilton, Ollie Bearman, and Alex Albon.

“It’s more than just a race,” Russell explained about his home Grand Prix.

“It is always one of the best supported races,” he added.

“To the fans, it’s more than just a race, it’s a big festival and the circuit does such an amazing job – there are activities for kids, for adults, you have concerts and the track is such a good one to watch an F1 car at.

“It’s not just a fan favourite, it’s a driver favourite too.”

Despite some of the more traditional circuits being removed from the F1 calendar or transitioning to alternating contracts, the Mercedes driver insists that the historic British Grand Prix is going nowhere.

“The calendar has changed over the year, new tracks have joined the rota and some historic circuits have lost out, but Silverstone is going nowhere.

“Knowing that Silverstone stands firm on the calendar is a really special feeling.

“It’s one of the best Grand Prix for us drivers and for the fans watching trackside and on TV.”
