Few people in motor racing knew Senna better than Berger. They first came across each other when they were competing in Formula 3 in 1983, and over the years as they moved up the ranks in grand prix racing, they became friends.

Somehow the intensely driven and competitive Brazilian gelled with the laid-back practical joker from Austria, and when they came together at McLaren in 1990 their relationship became even closer, as they spent time together both at and away from the circuit.
