Team bosses have yet to agree upon whether the new qualifying format should be changed but Michael Schumacher thinks waiting for a few races to see how it goes is the best option. The two Saturday sessions are set to stay at least for this weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix, the only slight alteration being a longer gap between them. In Melbourne there was only a two-minute turnaround but now the first session will start at 13.00 and the second at 14.00.
"We don't want to see everything being changed after just one race as it is important to see how it works out after maybe two or three races," said Schumacher. "All the team bosses are working to do is to ensure that the format is suitable for spectators and the TV audience."
If there is unanimous agreement to the time schedule change after this weekend, the format could apply from the Bahrain Grand Prix onwards. However, many are hoping for a more radical change, such as reverting to the first session taking place on Friday as last year.
As for the race on Sunday, Schumacher is confident that Ferrari can go the distance in the expected high temperatures. "All of us have to worry about reliability, you can never be sure," he conceded. "I'm confident we can finish races even in hot temperatures and I believe that side of our package is strong. We have simulated grand prix distances and I am not worried about it."
