With four GP's in five weeks, drivers and teams don't have time to sneeze from Magny-Cours (July 1-3) to Budapest (July 29-31) with Silverstone (July 8-10) and Hockenheim (July 22-24) in between, and for Jordan, there is also testing of the new Toyota powered EJ15B at the Paul Ricard Circuit wedged between the Great Britain and German GPs.
Taking all this into consideration, Tiago Monteiro will spend half the month of July in the cockpit of his Jordan!
After another record finish in France last weekend, Tiago now approaches the British event with serious determination. The circuit of Silverstone, in the heart of British motor racing, was the venue for the very first GP in F1 history back on May 13, 1950. The circuit, while being steeped in history, is also full of challenges for a rookie!
"Silverstone is not the ideal circuit for our car because it requires strong aerodynamic support, not like our EJ15," explains Tiago. "It is also, from the point of view of driving, a very demanding layout, and therefore we have to prepare for a weekend more complicated than normal."
However, Tiago will be able to count on the support of all the Jordan team members, who are based just a stones throw from the Northamptonshire Circuit.
"It is the one GP that all the team members come, with their families, to support us. It is the only occasion of the year where they get to see the fruit of their work in competition. Therefore I hope that all will go well, so that we can please them and reward them with a good result."
The Jordan workshops will be flat out until the last minute with the development of the EJ15B, which will once again be used by third driver Robert Doornbos during Friday practice.
"The differences between the EJ15 and the B version are mainly in the aerodynamic package, and therefore the Silverstone circuit is a good layout to gather data on the aerodynamic effectiveness, before continuing its development on the circuit Paul Ricard the following week."
"We found some good adjustments during the last races, and the car now has a good balance. We are also working well with Bridgestone, and are headed in the good direction," Tiago concluded, optimistic and determined to continue his exceptional reliability at Silverstone.
