Hamilton: No need to discuss Turn 1 clash with Rosberg

Lewis Hamilton thinks there is no reason for any discussion about what happened between himself and Nico Rosberg at the first corner of the United States Grand Prix.

Although Mercedes chiefs Toto Wolff and Niki Lauda believe Hamilton needs talking to for being too aggressive against Rosberg when they touched briefly, the world champion sees no issue with it.

“We haven't spoken and I don't think we really need to,” said Hamilton in Mexico on Thursday.

When pushed further on why he did not see a reason to discuss, Hamilton replied: “The reason for me is I am very easy going, so I never have any problems.

“Toto feels that he needs to perhaps sit with Nico to see where his head is at, because we don't want tension in the team.

“Generally we do come together and keep it transparent. I don't have anything to say about it, but I am sure we will sit down and see what Nico is feeling and whatever emotion he has, then try to dilute them and move on.”

No Rosberg support

Hamilton also rubbished any suggestion that with the drivers' and constructors' championship wrapped up, he would do anything to help Nico Rosberg finish second.

“Our team has not asked me to support him in that role,” he said.

“The team have won the constructors' championship so from here on, there will not be a huge benefit for the team getting me to start helping. But we will see what Toto wants to do.”

Cap moment

Hamilton was also dismissive of there being any lingering tension between himself and Rosberg after the cap-throwing moment before the podium.

“The cap thing? That was pretty funny,” he said. “I don't really have much else to say about it.”
