Michael Schumacher may be claiming that it's not all over for Ferrari yet but some believe Michael has already lost the chance to win this year's title. The reigning champion's younger brother Ralf, who drives for Toyota, thinks the gap between Renault's Fernando Alonso, who is currently leading the drivers' standings, and Michael is too big.

"Ferrari are too far away from the title," Ralf said, according to Bild. "You have to be realistic, Michael is 34 points away from Alonso. That is a lot of ground to make up, particularly as Renault will win some of the remaining races. Ferrari may as well write off the title for this season."

Eddie Irvine, who was formerly teammate to Michael at Ferrari, is another who thinks that the German's time is up and that Alonso is going to take the championship. "The guy's awesome," Irvine told the BBC in regard to Alonso.

"When the pressure's on, he doesn't seem to make mistakes like Michael does. He's the new king. Kimi Raikkonen's up there as well. The guard is changing, and I think it's about time because Michael is the most boring world champion ever."

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo said he was worried about the Bridgestone tyres after Michael retired from Barcelona with two deflations that the team were uncertain about the cause of. Di Montezemolo said the championship was more about tyres than cars and Ferrari was suffering for it.

"Maybe I drove through some debris lying around on the track," Michael told his website about the deflations. "I don't think that it was anything to do with Bridgestone. Because it is definitely unusual that a problem like this would come up in the front and then in the back."
