Norbert Haug is convinced Michael Schumacher is the ideal teammate for Nico Rosberg at Mercedes.
The seven time world champion's lukewarm return to Formula One this year has been much criticised, but competition boss Haug says the German marque is happy with its current lineup.
"For the rest of the year Michael will concentrate on achieving the absolute best results. And next year he will go for the title," he is quoted by Kicker magazine.
Haug refuses to blame Mercedes' drivers for the Brackley based team's difficult 2010 season.
"I would like no other lineup than Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg," he insisted.
As for the criticism of 41-year-old Schumacher's recent performances, Haug said: "I find it unnecessary to defend a seven time world champion.
"On the other hand I also understand the discussion. But the answer to the question as to whether Michael still has it, quite clearly 'yes'," added Haug.
