Italian GP Arrows Saturday notes

ITALIAN GRAND PRIX QUALIFYING - 12th SEPTEMBER 1998  

After heavy downpours during both morning's Free Practice Sessions which prevented the team from gathering valuable set-up information the Danka Zepter Arrows team's drivers Mika Salo qualified in 16th and Pedro Diniz in 20th positions.

Mika Salo: " We had a good strategy, waiting for the track to become drier. It was our first dry lap and the car therefore wasn't very well balanced also we had some brake problems. We had very difficult conditions and we had no information about tyres or car set-up. There is quite a lot of work to be done before tomorrow's race."

Pedro Diniz: " It hasn't been a good weekend for me so far. I didn't have much running before qualifying, no dry run at all and no timed laps on Friday and no dry laps till qualifying. The track conditions during qualifying improved gradually, but in the end I was caught up behind traffic on the last lap and could therefore not improve my position."

Tom Walkinshaw: " We always anticipated to be at a disadvantage at this fast circuit, however, our efforts were hindered by the extreme weather conditions, which did not allow the team and the drivers to set up the cars as they wished to do. Naturally the team will do its best to find a good set-up of both cars for tomorrow's race."
