After the scares last week, it now looks like Jenson Button should indeed get his FIA Superlicence to race in F1 this year. He has done 980km over the last 7 days, been close to the pace of Ralf Schumacher, and did 400km on Monday. The requirement is 300km over 2 days.
His application also needs to be approved by the Permanent Council of the F1 Commission, which comprises Max Mosley, Bernie Ecclestone, Jean Todt and Frank Williams. The latter is not expected to object...
Jaguar hit by reliability woes
The Jaguar team's preparations for the new season were heavily hit, when the team found itself with a whole catalogue of reliablility problems. These included oil system, throttle and transmission problems.
BAR overtakes WilliamsF1
The British American Racing team has leap-frogged the WilliamsF1 team, if testing in South Africa is to be believed. Ricardo Zonta came out on top of testing with 1m23.36, ahead of Ralf Schumacher's 1m23.70 and Jenson Button's 1m23.94.
F1 movie canned, not in the can
The F1 movie planned by Sly Stalone has been shelved, after disagreements with "a certain individual wh runs the sport who basically has his own agenda, and doesn't care about movies." This is believed to be Bernie Ecclestone. Ecclestone denies this, saying that finding finance for the film was the major stumbling block.
Mosley threatens to can European races
Max Mosley has threatened to reduce the number of Grand Prix to just 14, with only 3 in Europe if the the fiasco over the EU investigation into competition continues. The problems over the television rights and the EU has also badly affected Bernie Ecclestone's attempts to sell off the FOA.
