Renault's Fernando Alonso didn't quite repeat last year's achievement, but his Hungarian podium left him satisfied all the same.

Q: Fernando, what was the race like for you?

Fernando Alonso: I felt a little bit like the only car out there! I got a great start and might have got second position under braking for the first corner, but Sato closed the door on me quite early, I lifted off and unfortunately, only took third.

After that, everything went perfectly. No warnings, no problems. We got the strategy right, but the Ferraris were just too fast today and we quickly realised we could not fight them. The main thing after that was to maintain third place and build a gap to Montoya. We did a good job.

Q: The second half of the season seems to be going well for you...

FA: Definitely. I got a podium in Australia, then things went bad. I retired in Monaco, got fifth at the Nurburgring, then retired in Canada and America... I didn't have much luck! I got myself back in the swing of things with second in Magny-Cours, then another podium in Hockenheim two weeks ago. I will be looking to be on the podium at all the remaining races.

Q: Renault is now eight points ahead of BAR in the constructors' championship. Will you stay ahead?

FA: We will be fighting to do exactly that. However, we cannot let any points slip away, cannot afford any mistakes, and need to make our preparations faultless. We still have developments to come, and they should bring more performance between now and the last race.

I am feeling confident: Jarno and I make a good team and we have scored points in eleven of the thirteen races this year. It would be fantastic for Renault to finish in second place. It would be a great reward for all our work this year, and we will be giving 100% to make sure we do.
