After weeks of discussions and claims of verbal contract agreements, Jos Verstappen's management has called a halt to the negotiations between the Dutchman and Jordan. What exactly caused the talks to cease was not specified in a statement on Verstappen's website, only that a contract couldn't be agreed on.
"After lengthy study of all related contracts the sponsors and management of Jos Verstappen decided this morning to break off the ongoing talks with Jordan," read the statement. "The points of the contract presented by Jordan gave insufficient confidence in a successful cooperation in the coming season,"
Verstappen thanked his partners for their efforts but said, with the support of all his sponsors, he and Trust, his major backer, had decided to stop negotiations. "We've all done our very best to reach an agreement but at the moment there's just no point in continuing our talks," he commented.
Whether this means the end of Verstappen's hopes is yet to be seen but Jordan is the only team left with vacant race seats. Due to the test driver regulations Verstappen could not take a testing role anywhere, so unless the discussions between he and Jordan recommence it would seem Jos is out of a drive in Formula One, at least for this year.
