Jordan had a tough year in 2004 and technical director Mark Smith expects much the same at the start of the new season. However, despite his caution, Smith said that Jordan should not be written off. The team will run with a supply of Toyota engines this year which will be delivered this week, and then Jordan can get to work with the EJ15.

"Once we are able to move forward from this start point, the plan is to look at a significant development mid-season," said Smith, according to Reuters. "I would be very cautious about expectations for the first races but I am confident we can start doing something once the season is under way. So don't be hasty in writing us off."

Toyota's Luca Marmorini admitted that the decision to supply Jordan with engines was taken quite late, which made for a lot of hard work. "I think it will be a struggle for them and for us," he said. "We started in the middle of November needing to be ready in Melbourne with a car. So if we go there and the performance is good, it will be a fantastic technical result for our group and Eddie."

"I am sure that the car will be ready for the first race. Then we hope that it will be ready in the right way and can also be a fast car and also that we can do enough tests to get the best out of the engine."

There has been little in the way of speculation about which drivers Jordan may be considering for this season but Timo Glock and Robert Doornbos have been linked with the race seats. Glock was third driver for the team in 2004 and competed in four races instead of Giorgio Pantano. Doornbos took over the third driver slot when Glock was promoted for the last three events.
