Red Bull Racing is taking its time to make a decision about who will be teammate to David Coulthard next year and Christian Klien can only wait and hope. The Austrian raced for the team in its previous incarnation as Jaguar and has been testing for Red Bull over the winter, along with his main rival for the race seat Vitantonio Liuzzi.

There was no contract as a present for Klien over the festive period but perhaps a birthday gift will be forthcoming instead. Christian's birthday is on February 7th -- the day Red Bull will launch its 2005 challenger, the RB1, at Jerez in Spain.

"Of course it would have been nice to find a contract for next season under the Christmas tree, but let us see. My birthday is in February. Maybe then? No, just kidding!" Klien told his website.

"Seriously, I have shown my best during the recent practices, tests and training and everyone seemed pleased and content. Now it's up to the team to decide. Hopefully the New Year will bring the decision in my favour."

Red Bull signed Coulthard to a one year deal in December and Klien would be pleased to work with the Scot. "I am happy about the news that David Coulthard will join the team in 2005," he commented. "I think he is a great guy, also very disciplined and fun to work with."

It's been suggested that Red Bull may want to swap between Klien and Liuzzi as race drivers in 2005 but, naturally, neither would be keen on that idea. David Pitchforth, the team's managing director, has previously said that Klien would be wasted as test driver when he already has a year's race experience.
