Red Bull's newboy Daniil Kvyat was relieved to finally turn in some serious running at Jerez on the final day of the first 2015 Formula One test, after his disastrous Monday and an ERS problem this morning.

Kvyat logged 64 laps in total, and although he was over 3 seconds off the pace in the new Red Bull-Renault RB11, he was happier with his lot than he was on his opening day, when he was forced to trundle around with no front wing after crashing on an out-lap.

We’re not where we want to be, where we need to be and we will keep our progress [going] on.

“I think it’s been a very productive day all in all for us,” he said. “So we can pick up some really good points from today. Every lap counts, every lap is important and today we’ve managed a few laps, I think one of the most productive days of this test.

“We’re not where we want to be, where we need to be and we will keep our progress [going] on.”

Kvyat remained positive about the team’s chances of turning its fortunes around before the next tests in Barcelona, and then the opening race of the season in Australia.

“We had pretty productive laps today and I think for me that’s the most pertinent thing so far,” he said. “So we will analyse everything and start work where we want to be, what we want to improve and then Barcelona is not so far away.

“For me every lap is something new because it’s a new team, we are getting used to each other as well and finding the right approach with each other and so on. So it’s a few coming together and this is a very important stage now.”

Although the ERS issue limited its running this morning, Kvyat was upbeat about his afternoon’s work: “Yeah, we had a little limitation today this morning but we went over it and we managed to have a very clean afternoon I must say. So I’m quite happy about today’s progress from the team and from myself.”

Upbeat about Renault turning it around

On the subject of Renault’s problems, which are centred on its ERS system’s faulty water pump that is restricting its cars from doing long runs, Kvyat believes it’s a matter of time before they are resolved.

“Problems are always problems, you just have to sort them out,” he added. “So this is not something that I can fix personally, we will keep working and everyone is supporting each other.

“I personally trust in Renault, I personally trust in Red Bull Racing and we will hopefully make good use of it.

“It’s too early to make any conclusions from these days,” he added of the engine’s performance relative to last year. “There will be a lot of analysis going on and we will see.

“It’s not easy to cut the deficit to zero in one clap of hands, so we just have to keep working hard. Only hard work, step-by-step and patience will bring us what we desire.”
