Ferrari dominated testing once again at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, where Michael Schumacher set a new lap record of 1:15.016. Rubens Barrichello was second quickest, followed by tester Luca Badoer, all three Ferrari's separated by just over a second. Work focused on tyres and electronics on the last day of the team's scheduled session.

Fourth and fifth fastest were BAR's Jacques Villeneuve and Jenson Button respectively. BAR was the first team to field two new chassis' and its three-day test was not without problems. Villeneuve had trouble with mechanics and engine early in the week, as did Button at the end of the week. Test driver Anthony Davidson also had engine problems and the overall opinion was that it had been a frustrating few days. However, the drivers said the BAR005 was an improvement, when it ran properly, and early teething problems were to be expected.

The Jaguar duo of Mark Webber and Antonio Pizzonia wrapped up the team's test sixth and seventh quickest. Pizzonia continued to shakedown the R4 while Webber worked with the R3C. Jaguar spokesman Nav Sidhu said the test had been encouraging but there is still much more work to be done. Giancarlo Fisichella rounded off the times for Jordan, the Italian only managing twenty laps and was nearly five seconds off the pace.

In Valencia, Kimi Raikkonen topped the times for McLaren, his fastest of the day a 1:10.647 out of 62 laps. Gary Paffett was fourth quickest, the Brit filling in again for the unwell David Coulthard and team test driver Alex Wurz was bottom of the times.

Nick Heidfeld took over duties for Sauber and was second fastest, although his running was hampered by an engine problem. Driving the C22, Heidfeld worked on aerodynamics and a Bridgestone tyre programme.

Williams had two cars on track, Marc Gene third on the time sheets and Juan Pablo Montoya fifth, the Colombian racking up 84 laps, the most of the day. "We had a productive day continuing on with our testing schedule," said test team manager Tim Newton. It was a fairly routine day, nothing outstanding yet a reasonable amount of mileage was accumulated."

"We ran tyre tests with both drivers in addition to chassis and brake work. Marc continued driving the new BMW P83 engine with a FW24D 01 chassis while Juan drove a FW24 03. It is the penultimate day of a three-week stint of testing. The test team has worked relentlessly and will continue again at Barcelona after the new car launch next Friday."
