Triple Formula One world champion, Niki Lauda, has announced his intention to drive a Formula One car once again. The 52-year-old boss of Jaguar Racing is not coming out of competitive retirement, however, just aiming to better his understanding of how much F1 cars have changed since he last raced in 1985.
“ Formula One cars have changed almost beyond recognition since my day,” he told jaguar-racing.com,“ and it’s important for me to understand exactly what makes them tick. The brakes, the gearbox and the handling have all advanced so much that only by having a go can I fully appreciate the job of the modern day driver. Also, I must say, I am looking forward to it.”
It is not the first time that Lauda has kept himself‘ informed’ of developments in F1 cars. In 2000 he drove a McLaren two-seater around the circuit at Hockenheim, but this time the venue will be the Circuit de la Comunitat near Valencia in Spain, on a day of exclusive testing for the team.
"I am not going to try and set a competitive time," he added, "I leave that to our drivers, for me, I am just interested in the technical side."
