Aston Martin Formula 1 owner Lawrence Stroll has detailed his mission to turn the Silverstone outfit into world champions.

Stroll led a consortium of investors in August 2018 in buying the assets of the Force India F1 team, which was then renamed Racing Point Force India. The branding changed again in 2019 to Racing Point F1 Team, and in January 2020, it was announced that Stroll led the Yew Tree Investments consortium to invest £182million in Aston Martin for a 16.7% stake in the company. As a result, the F1 team was rebranded once again as the Aston Martin F1 Team in 2021.

“The whole team’s forming into place and we’re looking forward to next year, to a huge rules and regulation change," Stroll explained during a video on the team's official YouTube channel.

After working with Mercedes as its power unit supplier, the Stroll-led team is set to join forces with Honda from 2026 when the Japanese manufacturer parts ways with Red Bull.

"Another huge step, we have Honda being our power unit partner, being a works team for the first time in our life is a whole different experience," he continued. "Designing an engine that’s mated together with a power unit as one rather than being a customer engine and just being delivered an engine.

"So, a tremendous amount of excitement is happening. I’m relentless. I don’t give up until the mission is completed. In this case, the mission is being world champions.”

In addition to partnering with Honda, Aston Martin signed former Red Bull chief technical officer Adrian Newey as managing technical partner.

“Chatting to some of the mechanical engineers earlier this week, and they’re saying, ‘Adrian is all about first-principles engineering,'" team principal Andy Cowell explained when discussing Newey's influence during the BBC Chequered Flag podcast.

“I look at them and say, ‘Well, shouldn’t we all be about first-principles engineering?' Adrian just brings that clear focus on chasing the pinnacle, which is wonderful for all the engineers to experience and is getting the whole business to think that way, where we’re chasing peak performance in record time.

“That’s how you do well in this industry, it’s actually remarkably simple.”
