Luxembourg Grand Prix Two Ferraris on the front row Nürburgring, Saturday 26th September

Michael Schumacher: first, 1m 18.561s, 11 laps Eddie Irvine: second, 1m 18.907s, 12 laps

Jean Todt "I am very happy with our qualifying performance. We have not had both our cars on the front row since Belgium in 1995. This is the second pole position for Michael this year, he drove some fantastic laps here. Today is the first time Eddie has qualified on the front row of the grid and he really did a great job. The Goodyear tyres worked very well. I am also happy for our engine chief, Paolo Martinelli, who celebrates his birthday today. We must concentrate on the work in hand because tomorrow we have to do the hardest part of the job."

Michael Schumacher "This is a fantastic result at this point in the season. Especially as Eddie is alongside me, which makes it the optimum situation. It is incredible that the team continues to improve the car, even when you think it is impossible, so a big thank you goes to all the mechanics and engineers. I hope I can pay them back tomorrow for all their hard work."

Eddie Irvine "I am delighted to be on the front row next to Michael. This is the best possible situation for the race. Having said that, I am starting on the wrong side on the track and it might be hard to gauge my start. It is great to only have the back of Michael's car to look at! I still had too much understeer this morning but we worked and worked on it and we got rid of most of it for the afternoon. As for the race, our main concern is Michael's position in the Championship."
