Manor's Austria point has "has opened our eyes" - Nasr

Manor's Pascal Wehrlein finished 10th at the Red Bull Ring, leaving Sauber as the only outfit in the current 11-team Formula 1 grid yet to score a point in 2016.

Asked whether that put more pressure on the Swiss squad, Sauber driver Nasr said: "It has opened our eyes, [it] gives us another reason to keep pushing on the development, which is supposed to come very soon.

"We have to raise our game. We’ve been running the same car as we did in the winter, so it’s time to bring some pace.

"We have the latest-spec Ferrari [engine] here, which should help, but we need to bring a new aero package and bring some downforce."

Regarding the timing of the next update, Nasr clarified: “It’s scheduled for Budapest, but [it should arrive] in the next two races."

2017 outlook

Speaking about his future with the team, Nasr did not rule out remaining with Sauber for a third consecutive season in 2017, despite a trying 2016 campaign thus far.

"I want to be in Formula 1, the people who work for me are looking into it, looking what there is to offer, even here at Sauber," Nasr said.

Asked by Motorsport.com what targets Sauber needed to hit for him to seek an extension to the deal, the Brazilian said: "I would say, points are gonna be very welcome. At the end of the day that’s what we are looking at, if we can steadily improve the car, we still have 12 races to go, a lot of opportunities…

"If we get ourselves in the right way understanding the car, getting the parts to work, it can be an interesting place as well."
