Martin Brundle's encounter with Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi during the Singapore Grand Prix grid walk has quickly gained traction on social media after the former Formula 1 driver mistook Capaldi's brother for him.
Before closing out the grid walk for the Singapore national anthem, Brundle quickly approached who he thought was the Grammy-nominated artist. “Lewis, wonderful to see you…” After realising it was, in fact, Capaldi's brother, Anthony, he added as Lewis appeared: “Oh, you’re his brother?" he said with a giggle. "How are you both?”
Lewis Capaldi responded: “Very nice to meet you. Big fan.”
The pair revealed that they were supporting McLaren before Brundle had to end the interview for the national anthem to take place. “I am sorry I mistook you but lovely to see you on the grid," he added.
But, to make matters more cringeworthy, Capaldi went for a handshake with the F1 legend, only for Brundle to not realise and continue to walk away.
Brundle previously discussed the grid walk during an interview with The Sun, revealing that he is "terrified" of being one sentence away from the end of his career.
“I’m one sentence away from the end of my career at all times, or being cancelled,” Brundle said. “I’m terrified of the whole thing, because it’s live and it’s just pure car crash television.

“Machine Gun Kelly, Megan Thee Stallion, I don’t know, getting knocked about by security guards. They’re the ones that people like.
“And then I meet some really lovely, fascinating, world-class people, politicians and royalty and movie stars, and I’m very privileged with the people I meet on the grid.”
He added: “I understand that [not all celebrities have a lot of F1 knowledge] because we watch Formula 1 year in, year out, racing ourselves, and they’re on the grid and they actually don’t know anything about it, and quite clearly don’t really want to be there.
“They’re just selling a movie or something. I get that, but for Formula 1, they are A-listers.”
