How Verstappen has reinvented himself in F1 2019

From a needless FP3 crash in 2018 to a patient yet relentless challenge for victory this year, the two most recent Monaco Grands Prix typify just how much Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has matured.

The Monte Carlo race was the nadir of Verstappen's 2018 campaign, as a crash in final practice – amid a run of high-profile incidents at the start of that season – prevented him from taking part in qualifying and derailed his bid for victory.

But that was followed by a superb run of form over the remainder of the year, and Verstappen has kept up that momentum in 2019 by finishing third or fourth in the six races so far – which included hounding Lewis Hamilton for victory last weekend in Monaco.

Edd Straw is joined by Scott Mitchell to discuss Verstappen's emergence as a rounded performer over the past 12 months, and how the 21-year-old has shouldered the responsibility of being a team leader this season.
