Max Verstappen’s Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport heads to auction for $650,000

RM Sotheby’s will auction a rare, track-only Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport formerly owned, signed and track-used by Max Verstappen

RM Sotheby's has a rather special Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport up for auction. Formerly owned by four-time Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen, the car is from a run of 200 track-only GT2 RS Clubsport cars built only for track use, and boasts an estimated value between $550,000-$650-000.

Built upon the 991-generation 911 GT2 RS, the Clubsport was revealed alongside the 992 911 at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. Developed on the Weissach test track, it comes with an upgraded exhaust system creating a bump in power, as well as a tuned chassis for more on-track performance. Porsche describes this model as "the most powerful, non-street legal, GT customer sports car we’ve ever built."

The Dutch driver purchased this machine in August 2019 with an extra set of wheels and a spares package. According to the auction house, the car received trackday support from the Netherlands outfit, GP Elite, which cared for it in between spirited track drives by Verstappen. GP Elite has a strong reputation for its work on Porsches, with the team itself running its own cars in the Carrera Cup and Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.

It has been driven at circuits including Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in January 2020 by Verstappen and his father, Jos, and was included in the filming of the Dutch miniseries Max Verstappen: Whatever It Takes.

The Red Bull driver has signed the vehicle in three places: the passenger-side dashboard, the engine bay and the front bonnet. His name can also be spotted on the digital dashboard alongside that of his manager, Raymond Vermeulen. A photo of Verstappen signing the car will also be included in the sale.

Imported from Belgium to the United States in 2022, the car hasn't been used since, according to the listing, with it being held in static storage.

While the car's performance and provenance are enough for any buyer in the market, its connection to Verstappen is simply the cherry on top.
