McLaren ends Jerez test on top

Official in-season testing for 2007 came to a close on September 20th at Spain's Jerez circuit and McLaren test driver Pedro de la Rosa was the man at the top of the time sheet on the final day. Of the 10 drivers present de la Rosa clocked the best lap of 1:19.617 while working on aerodynamic development and set up.

Ferrari tester Luca Badoer was second quickest, less than a tenth behind de la Rosa. He focused on mechanical solutions for the last three races and electronics. Meanwhile, at Fiorano fellow Scuderia tester Marc Gene shook down the cars for the upcoming Japanese GP.
Mark Webber's Red Bull was third fastest at Jerez and he too worked on set up for the last three events of the season. He also evaluated some aero modifications but mechanical problems cut his day short. Nick Heidfeld concluded BMW Sauber's week in fourth, his focus set up for the end of this season and 2008 developments.
Nelson A. Piquet wrapped up Renault's work with fifth fastest. He completed his scheduled technical programme, including control systems for 2008, aero work and set up. Sixth on the time sheet was Honda's Jenson Button, working on aero comparisons in the morning.
"As it was the last test of the season this week, we focused on preparing the car for the final three races," Button said of the week's work. "Both Rubens and I ran the car in different aero configurations to establish the best package and after a day and a half in the car, it was clear which direction we should be taking."
Jarno Trulli was seventh overall for Toyota and like most others his focus was aero and mechanical set up. "This morning, Jarno carried on the programme Ralf had started yesterday and by midday had made strong progress and was happy with the car handling and balance," said test team manager Gerd Pfeiffer.
"But then, unfortunately, some strong winds blew up and that made conditions more unpredictable and we could no longer carry out meaningful comparison testing. We therefore switched emphasis for the final part of the afternoon. Overall we have had three solid days and collected a lot of data."
Toro Rosso's Sebastian Vettel was eighth quickest and he worked on finding a comfortable set up before carrying out front wing aero tests, as well as 2008 configuration without traction control. James Rossiter, currently Super Aguri tester but today back in the Honda cockpit, was ninth fastest when he took over from Button in the afternoon.
Nico Rosberg's Williams rounded off the times in 10th. "Once again we concentrated on some more systems checks with Nico and encountered no major problems," said test team manager Dickie Stanford. "In the afternoon, we carried out some set-up comparisons for the next few races and started our development work for 2008."
