McLaren Jerez test notes 2005-09-28

Team McLaren Mercedes began a two day test at the Jerez circuit in Spain today, with Alex Wurz and Pedro de la Rosa behind the wheel of two V10 powered Team McLaren Mercedes MP4-20s.

Both drivers were conducting front suspension work this morning and this afternoon, Alex's programme also incorporated front damper work. Pedro's afternoon was focussed on Michelin tyre testing for the forthcoming Chinese Grand Prix at which he will drive the third car.

On the last lap of the day Pedro's car suffered an engine failure after it had run for 1315km in total. The reason for this problem will be investigated. Before the failure, the engine had been tested extensively across the full power range.

Pedro was the fastest driver of the day with a time of 1m16.402s, while Alex was fourth fastest with a best lap time of 1m16.825s. Alex and Pedro will return to the circuit tomorrow for the final day of testing.
