Improved weather conditions at Valencia on Thursday saw McLaren's fortunes reverse yet again. Fastest on the first day, tester Pedro de la Rosa was bottom of the times yesterday but the Spaniard returned to the top today. De la Rosa set a best of 1:09.979 over 44 laps; Alex Wurz was scheduled to take over duties today but the team decided to keep de la Rosa behind the wheel.
Second quickest was the Williams FW26 of Marc Gené. He worked on traction control and set up for Malaysia and Antonio Pizzonia takes over tomorrow.
Rubens Barrichello was third on the time sheet, the Brazilian driving the Ferrari F2004 and focusing on development work. Team tester Luca Badoer was bottom of the times in the F2003-GA and worked on tyres. It was the last day of Ferrari's test week at Valencia.
Fastest man yesterday, BAR's Anthony Davidson was fourth today. In the 04 concept car Davidson racked up 127 laps but was outdone by Renault's Franck Montagny who totaled 135 laps. Montagny continued with power steering tests as well as suspension and tyres.
Toyota completed the lineup of cars on track, again with testers Ricardo Zonta and Ryan Briscoe on duty. Both drivers used a TF103 chassis apiece and completed over 160 laps between them. The Michelin teams continue tomorrow with tyre tests on an artificially wet track, unless the weather obliges with the real thing.
