Sauber Petronas has concluded a three-year partnership agreement with Mitsubishi Electric Europe B.V. Under the terms of this agreement Mitsubishi Electric will supply wire-cut and die sinking systems to Sauber Petronas in return for which Mitsubishi Electric will receive extensive marketing and advertising rights. In addition, both companies have agreed on a close collaboration to develop specific know-know in this field.

"EDM technology has been gaining increasing importance in recent years, giving our designers new potentials for shaping components, which clearly surpass those of conventional machining techniques," Willy Rampf, Sauber Petronas' Technical Director, describes the benefits.

Toshio Moro, Division Manager Mechatronics EDM, sees the collaboration with Sauber Petronas as a competitive challenge: "Top performance in racing requires top performance in the production and manufacture of components for the racing cars. Mitsubishi Electric, the technology leader in the field of wire-cut EDM, meets these prerequisites in an ideal way."

Mitsubishi is the world market leader in the field of EDM with a market share of 30 percent. The European headquarters of the Mechatronics EDM division has been located in Ratingen near Düsseldorf (Germany) since 1991. Mitsubishi Electric Europe B.V. employs more than 1,300 people in its nine European subsidiaries.

Mitsubishi Europe B.V. is a fully owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation headquartered in Tokyo. Around the world, the company currently has 132 branch and sales offices, 74 manufacturing locations and 15 research and development centres with a total of roughly 100,000 employees. Sales in the 2004 financial year amounted to 25.54 billion euros.
