The first practice session for Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix got underway this morning at the circuit Gilles Villeneuve and Jaguar Racing began their on-track preparation for the event.
Mark Webber completed a relatively limited programme as he evaluated his tyre choices and worked on race set up. He ended the session 15th quickest. "The circuit was still pretty dusty so it took some time before it was giving worthwhile info. But so far, so good, the car feels ok as a basic starting point but there are the usual issues to work through to get the brake and tyre wear information we need."
Christian Klien, on his first visit to the track, completed a lot more laps - 23 in total - as he familiarised himself. "I'm still working on the balance of the car and getting a feel for each of the tyre choices." He was 20th quickest in the session.
Team test driver Bjorn Wirdheim got no meaningful running due to a couple of problems on his car. On his first out lap he could smell petrol in the car and so pitted immediately.
The problem was investigated and rectified but when he got back out on the track a hydraulic problem was picked up by the telemetry and he was brought in. The team worked away on the car in order to ready it for the afternoon but he took no further part in the morning session.
