Hamilton reckoned his pole position lap was as close to perfection as you can get round Monaco, but once he had that advantage he had to work incredibly hard to hold onto it. Although he spent most of the race trying to get his head round the tyre selection, he didn't miss a beat behind the wheel and was equal to Verstappen's attack when it finally came.
