After a three-week break following the Australian Grand Prix Tiago Monteiro finished the San Marino race in 16th position. "It was a really hard race for me," Monteiro said. "I pushed hard until the last four laps. But then I took it easy because the clutch was about to go."

"At the start, I was surprised that everything went so well for me," he added. "I just managed to keep Sato behind me. I realised that my teammate had retired right away as a victim of a spectacular collision with Yuji Yuji Ide (Super Aguri F1) that rolled his car on the first lap."
"With just Takuma Sato behind me I wasn't concerned I might also be hit from behind. It was just a matter of pushing, being consistent and keeping my concentration until the end. I was experimenting with some lines and adjusting the set up from the cockpit to learn as much as possible about the car."
"I was not sure at the start of the race what the strategy would be in terms of pit stops. We opted for a two-stop strategy at first and started with used tires for the race. When the team called me in for the first pit stop on lap 17 the team put on new tyres. The stop went smoothly and the team did a fantastic job."
"After that, I had a regular race. After 28 laps, I was one lap behind and my lap time was a regular 1.28.828. I was racing behind Nick Heidfeld, Scott Speed and Vitantonio Liuzzi but never close enough to meet traffic."
"I came back in the pit on lap 37 for my second stop and it was another good one. The car was really heavy and difficult to control and it went wide on my 46th lap at turn 12, but luckily I was able to recover and to make it to the finish. What an adventure!"
Michael Schumacher won a well deserved Grand Prix after fighting fiercely with Fernando Alonso. It is the 85th win for the seven-time German has won an F1 race after breaking Ayrton Senna's record on Saturday to claim his 66th pole position.
