Montezemolo scorns 'idiotic' ideas

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has said if some of the proposed changes to Formula One are accepted, he wonders if there's any point in continuing in the sport. Montezemelo thinks it is unfair that a team should be penalized just for being good at what it does.

"I'm proud that Ferrari is so strong," he said. "We've always accepted intelligent ideas that don't go against the spirit of Formula One but these ones are idiotic. I have to ask myself if there's a point in even investing in Formula One if it's like that. I'm confident that these ideas won't be implemented. However, it is clear that our patience is being tested. It is unthinkable, that those who have performed best get punished."

Max Mosley has defended his ideas, saying if the teams don't like the suggestions, it's up to them to come up with something better. While many are not happy about the proposed changes, it seems no-one can come up with an alternative. Eddie Jordan said recently he would accept a weight penalty and Williams technical director Patrick Head has grudgingly agreed. Head said Williams would not vote in favour of weight ballast but should the idea be voted in, he would accept it.

The only thing that most seem to agree on is that something needs to be done to stop the alarming decline in audiences of F1. Less television viewers ultimately means less income from that area and none of the teams want that to happen.
