Montezemolo thanks Ferrari squad

At Mugello for the last day of the Ferrari Maserati World Finals, Luca di Montezemolo paid tribute to Ferrari's success in the Formula One 2003 constructors' and drivers' championships. The star attraction was the Ferrari F1 team, which staged an on-track display of four F2003-GA machines with drivers Michael Schumacher, Rubens Barrichello, Luca Badoer and Felipe Massa.

The spectacle of four Ferraris together on the circuit was quite something to see, trading places, driving in formation and simulating pit stops for the 50,000 strong crowd. The driver quartet also took part in a special event with others in the Trofeo Vodafone Maserati race.

Speaking to journalists, di Montezemolo said: "I will never grow tired of repeating it: behind exceptional triumphs there have to be exceptional people." Gathered with Ferrari team boss Jean Todt and driver Schumacher and Barrichello, the Ferrari president continued: "I have to thank these three guys."

"Michael had an extraordinary year. Rubens went through some tough times but also gave us some marvellous moments like at Silverstone and Suzuka. He allowed us to reach our goals and, in particular, win constructors' title, something we have won since he arrived at Ferrari."

"Ours was a team win and that is something that gives us even more satisfaction after a trying year in which the championship was open until the final kilometres. The regulations made things more difficult but we were always able to react. We had to win the last two races and that we did."

"In Italy the importance of small enterprises is often emphasised. We are tiny in the global auto market but we have been able make it into the history books, chalking up some fantastic results; the satisfaction is even greater given the status of our competition."
