Juan Pablo Montoya is defensive of Williams' performance so far this season but although he believes the FW26 is good, he admitted that it's not a race-winning machine just yet. Montoya and teammate Ralf Schumacher have racked up 19 points between them so far and Williams is currently third in the constructors' standings, behind Ferrari and Renault.

The Colombian retired at the very end of the Bahrain Grand Prix with a gearbox failure but was on the podium in Malaysia. "Our car is not uncompetitive," Montoya stated. "We were second in Malaysia and finished in the points in Australia so the car is good. But at the moment it is not yet a winning machine. Let's hope that changes soon."
Obviously Ferrari is the team to beat but Montoya is not thinking about the Scuderia too much -- for the moment it's the performance of his own team he's concentrating on. "We cannot focus our racing just on what Ferrari can do," he said. "We've got to focus our racing on what we are doing and how we can make it happen. We cannot make Ferrari go any slower. All we can do is to ensure sure that we do the best job with what we have got."
Williams will introduce aerodynamic improvements at the next race, San Marino this coming weekend, and also has two new tyre choices from Michelin. After the flyaway races with considerably higher temperatures than Europe, Montoya hopes Imola's cooler climate may help.
"The colder weather in Imola will make a change from the first three races this season and could affect our rivals' performances," he commented. "I think the FW26 should perform well, despite the fact that last year's San Marino Grand Prix was not a good race for me. Due to a problem with the fuel rig, I only managed to finish in seventh place, but I'm hoping for better luck this year!"
Montoya's younger brother, 19 year old Federico, finished ninth in the German Formula BMW season opener at Hockeheim on April 18th.
