'Silverstone Wing' set to soar over The Home of British Motor Racing

Silverstone and its owners, the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC), are delighted to announce that the name chosen for the iconic new Pit, Paddock and Conference building is 'The Silverstone Wing'.

'The Wing' is synonymous with motor sport, but also connects with Silverstone's aviation history, therefore illustrating both the circuit's rich heritage and its exciting future.

Richard Phillips, Managing Director of Silverstone Circuits Limited, explains: "'The Silverstone Wing' is a highly appropriate name. 'Flight' and 'velocity' were key themes incorporated into the design brief, and the streamlined form of the new building conjures up the impression of speed, dynamic motion and the grace of a bird's wing in full flight."

A recent competition, inviting members of the public to name the new building, generated more than 4,000 entries.

Phillips added, "Many of the competition entrants suggested names that included the word 'wing', or related to types of birds. After careful deliberation by the Silverstone team the entries were whittled down to just 20 names, which were then presented to the BRDC Board for discussion at the November Board Meeting."

'The Wing' was submitted by 10 members of the public as a potential name for the new building. Originally, entrants coming up with the best suggestion were to be entered into a draw, with the lucky winner walking away with a prize package. However, the circuit has since decided to reward each of the 10 entrants who championed 'The Wing' with the ultimate prize for any motor sport enthusiast:

* Money-can't-buy VIP invitation for two (each winner + guest) to attend the official opening of 'The Silverstone Wing' in May, 2011
* Race day hospitality for two (each winner + guest) at the 2011 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix on Sunday 10 July
* Race day hospitality for two (each winner + guest) at the 2011 AirAsia British Grand Prix (MotoGP) on Sunday 19 June
* A Silverstone Super Choice Voucher - choose from six of Silverstone's most popular Driving Experiences, including the Ferrari, Aston Martin, Lotus, Formula Silverstone Single-Seater, Lamborghini, or Rally experience (one experience for each winner only)
