Although the Mexican has yet to drive the 6.003km venue in anger, having only run it on Wednesday night, he is already predicting a special weekend for grand prix drivers.

"It is the most challenging one...there is very little room for mistakes," explained the Force India driver.

"If you do a mistake you are going to lose a couple of seconds, if not crash into the wall. It is like Monaco, but faster. It looks from the outside, from the laps I did, running the circuit, it looks very challenging."

Perez believes the venue has similar characteristics to Macau, which has a long straight and twisty city section.

"I never did Macau in my career – but this is one I really hope tomorrow I can enjoy driving," he said. "It is going to be one of those tracks that are going to stick out on the calendar.

"It is quite unusual. The corners, the risk – going into the wall. I like that. It is a good challenge for the driver, coming to challenging places. It is something we all enjoy and most of the drivers are going to love this place."

But despite the wide start-finish straight, Perez is sceptical about overtaking opportunities.

"It is going to be very difficult," he said. "Although you have one of the longest straights on the calendar, I think it might be on the difficult side to overtake.

"But I am very pleased with the job Tilke did on this one and Charlie [Whiting] as well, for making it more of a drivers' circuit.

"In some of the places we go, you make a mistake and cut across and there is not even grass. Here there is a challenge, no room for mistakes and I like that. That is how F1 should be – no room for mistakes."
