Ralf Schumacher headed the time sheet on the second day of testing at Jerez, the Williams driver clocking a fastest of 1:16.831. Team tester Antonio Pizzonia is out of action with an injured ankle and Schumacher stepped in to replace Olivier Beretta, who was on track yesterday.

Williams official test driver Marc Gen? was also on duty and was seventh quickest. Schumacher carried out suspension and tyre work, as well as practice starts, while Gen? evaluated traction control and tyres.

McLaren test driver duo Alex Wurz and Pedro de la Rosa were second and sixth respectively and BAR had Anthony Davidson and Enrique Bernoldi on track. Davidson worked on aerodynamics, suspension and tyres and was third fastest. Bernoldi, who had a sore neck after his first stint yesterday, was ninth and also worked on tyres.

Franck Montagny, fastest man yesterday, was fourth for Renault and the team again had Finnish youngster Heikki Kovalainen behind the wheel, fifth. Jarno Trulli continued work for Toyota and was eighth quickest despite suffering a rear wing failure. The Italian managed to avoid an accident.

Luca Badoer returned to the track after his crash yesterday but found his Ferrari back in a gravel trap at turn one. It was a minor off but Badoer was again at the bottom of the time sheet. Andrea Bertolini finished a two-day session at Fiorano with 105 laps working on electronics, and set a best time of 57.451. Michael Schumacher will be on duty at Jerez tomorrow.

The times at Jerez were very close today; Wurz was eight hundredths behind Ralf Schumacher, while Davidson and Montagny were nine or so hundredths off the leader. Eight tenths covered the top nine; only Badoer was well off the pace, two and a half seconds down on Ralf's Williams.
