Daniel Ricciardo (FP1: P4, 1:36.623, Laps: 21 / FP2: P4, 1:35.511, Laps: 11): “Today hasn’t been too bad. Mercedes were really strong this morning but we seem to have found some more speed this afternoon. With the Prime, it was really good but with the Option we didn’t find enough time so, if we analyse tonight and get it right, then tomorrow we should be closer. The wind here is always really strong and today in particular we had really strong gusts coming through and it changes a lot between the corners, you know one corner you feel like the car is really sharp and then another corner you feel like it doesn’t have any grip at all. So that’s a bit complicated, but same for everyone and it makes it a little bit more interesting.”
Sebastian Vettel (FP1: P6, 1:36.921, Laps: 20 / FP2: P5, 1:35.627, Laps: 27): “I think it was interesting today, obviously we’re not sure what the weather will do tomorrow and Sunday, but I think we learned a little bit today and will take that into the weekend. Overall I think it was OK but we can still improve from where we are. Ferrari was pretty quick as well today, obviously the first row is taken, or seems to be, but behind that I think it was fairly close. It was quite windy which didn’t make life easy out there, so I think it was decent, but I want to improve.”
Birthday Boys
It’s been a week of cake and candles here at Infiniti Red Bull Racing as both our drivers celebrated their birthday this week – Daniel turned 25 on Tuesday and Sebastian reached the grand old age of 27 yesterday. We celebrated with caricature cakes and talked to them (along with Christian and Adrian) about their birthday memories…
What’s the best birthday present you ever received?
Christian: I got a go-kart from my mother when I was 12, which I drove on the drive of a farmhouse down the road.
Daniel: That has to be my first car when I was 17. It was a 4X4.
Sebastian: The best present wasn’t for my birthday, it was for a Christmas, when I got my first go-kart. I think I was four. I did get the next step up kart for a later birthday.
Adrian: A pedal go-kart when I was eight years old.
Hmmm, we’re beginning to see a pattern here…
And your worst birthday?
Daniel: I don’t remember the year, but I had to fly to France on my birthday, so the whole day was spent at the airport, on a plane and then a train at the other end. That was a bit rubbish.
Adrian: No bad ones really.
Sebastian: I can’t remember a bad one. To be honest I’m just happy if people remember it!
Christian: Likewise, they’ve generally been good. Last year for my 40th we were in Austin and we won. Also, I remember in 2010, my birthday was the day after we had won our first Drivers’ Championship and we went to Salzburg to celebrate. So generally they’ve been good.
