Sauber Monza test, day 2

Team RED BULL SAUBER PETRONAS continued its three-day test at Monza, Italy, today, prior to the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal next weekend. Kimi Räikkönen covered 45 laps before being forced to stop by a transmission problem early this afternoon. His best lap up until then was 1m 26.003s, which was fastest until Juan Pablo Montoya improved late in the afternoon as temperatures dropped.

Jacky Eeckelaert (Head of Test Team): "This morning we concentrated on running the C20 with the levels of downforce that we will require in Canada next week, and everything went according to plan. We were also able to do some suspension and traction control set-up work.

"Unfortunately, on his third lap this afternoon Kimi Räikkönen was stranded out on the track when a problem developed in the transmission. We had to wait while he was towed back to the pits, and then had to curtail our programme for the rest of the day. We are currently investigating the failure."

Kimi Räikkönen: "I was very happy today because the car felt very good. We got through our planned programme this morning and I was particularly impressed with the set-up that we developed. It was a shame the transmission problem stopped us so early this afternoon, because I was really enjoying myself."
